For many years, Gary Carlson has had a great reverence for and interest in the dying process. Gary currently works as an in-home hospice volunteer, helping both the dying and their families deal with the process of approaching death. He feels strongly that death is a natural part of the life process, and that caring for the dying can help us in our own understanding of and appreciation for life. He makes pottery crematory urns as part of his commitment to this process. An animal lover, he also makes smaller crematory urns for pets. He also creates water fountains and flower holders that are appropriate for use in a memorial setting.
Gary has been a studio potter for 30 years. A concurrent career as a research scientist has given him a deep understanding of ceramic science. In the studio, Gary works at the potter's wheel with stoneware clay. The crematory urns and other ceramic pieces featured here are thrown on the wheel, then low-fired, next glazed inside and outside and finally high-fired to over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit to form a durable, impervious ceramic vessel. Gary's ceramic pieces are available in a variety of styles and glaze colors to fit your individual needs. The pieces pictured on this site are available for immediate shipping. Similar work in different colors or custom designs to your specification can be made in about 4-6 weeks. Names and dates can be added during fabrication to personalize any urn.
